Federal Mahogany Desk and Bookcase Massachusetts, c.1810

Description: Having an upper case with two drawers over a pair of glazed doors behind which are birdseye maple veneered small drawers and valenced pigeon hold sitting atop a lower case with a folding writing flap over three cock beaded drawers on turned and reeded legs.

 

Woods: Primary; mahogany with mahogany and birdseye maple veneer and inlay. Secondary; white pine.

 

Dimensions: W. 42 ¼ in. D. 22 in. H. 62 ½ in.

 

Condition: Original baize writing surface with gold embossed leather trim. Replaced brasses and minor repairs to veneer.

Federal Mahogany Sideboard Massachusetts c.1810


Description: The top with an elliptical front and square corners over a case with a central long drawer flanked by two short drawers over a central cabinet with a tambour door flanked by two bottle drawers and cabinets on turned and reeded legs.

 

Woods: Primary; mahogany and mahogany veneer with inlay. Secondary; white pine. Dimensions: W. 72 in. D. 25 in. H. 39 ½ in.

 

Condition: Brasses replaced.

 

References: An almost identical sideboard that had been owned by the Seattle antique dealer, Betty Balcom, was sold at Skinner's June 4, 2006 Lot #27

Federal Cherry Tripod Stand with Checkerboard Top and Drawer New England c. 1800

Description: Having a square top with a gold and black painted checkerboard from which is suspended a single "push-pull" drawer on a turned standard supported by spider legs on spade feet.

 

Woods: Primary; Cherry. Secondary; Cherry and tulip poplar.

 

Dimensions: Height 26 in. Top 18 ½ in. x 19 in.

 

Condition: Drawer replaced.

Federal Mahogany Birdcage Candlestand Philadelphia, c. 1810

Description: Having a rectangular top with shaped corners on a birdcage tilting and turning mechanism with baluster turnings on a turned standard with spider legs.

 

Wood: Mahogany

 

Dimensions: Height 28 ½ in. Top 22 in x 18 ¾ in.

 

Condition: Cracks and fills in the lower portion of the standard and tops of legs. Replaced steel reinforcement.

Chippendale Mahogany Chair Boston

c. 1760-1785

Description: Having a carved serpentine crest rail over a pierced "owl's eye" splat and trapezoidal seat with loose upholstered seat frame on cabriole legs with pad feet connected by turned stretchers.

 

Woods: Primary; mahogany. Secondary; maple.

 

Dimensions: H. 37 ½ in. W. 23 ¼ in. D. 18 in.

 

Inscription: A chisel marked Roman numeral II is on the back rail of the slip seat.

 

Condition: Very good overall.

Description: Having a square fixed top with carved corners on a turned standard on cabriole legs with pad feet.

 

Wood: Cherry

Condition: Has an excellent old surface.
